Premiere
Trey Parker and Matt Stone created the series for Comedy Central. It premiered on 13 August 1997. It grew out of the Spirit of Christmas shorts from 1992 and 1995. Comedy Partners and South Park Studios make it. South Park Studios was Braniff Productions until 2006, then Parker-Stone Productions until 2007. Primus wrote the theme. Adam Berry, Scott Nickoley and Jamie Dunlap have composed for the series.

The 1999 film
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut opened in the United States on 30 June 1999, after a 23 June premiere at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. Trey Parker directed. Parker, Matt Stone and Pam Brady wrote it. Marc Shaiman wrote the score, and Parker and Shaiman wrote the songs. Budget 21 million dollars, gross about 83 million. Runtime 81 minutes. Paramount released it in the United States and Canada.

Season 29
Season 29 opened on 16 September 2026 with South American Biker Gangs. Wikipedia schedules five more episodes, on 30 September, 14 October, 28 October, 11 November and 25 November 2026, and those rows have no titles yet. They are not in this catalogue. In July 2025 the Los Angeles Times reported a Paramount agreement for new episodes through five years.

Parker and Stone set the series in a fictional Colorado town inside the real South Park basin, about an hour from Denver. Comedy Partners and South Park Studios produce it in Los Angeles. The photograph is a public-domain view of the basin.
