The real basin in Park County, Colorado. The town in the series is fictional and takes its look from places such as Fairplay. The series and the 1999 film are animated. This photograph is the basin as it was recorded, not a set still.

Parker and Stone set the series in a fictional Colorado town inside the real South Park basin, about an hour from Denver. Comedy Partners and South Park Studios produce it in Los Angeles. The photograph is a public-domain view of the basin.
